For light doors, a darker wood finish often works better. For dark doors, a warmer, more contrasting tone can be chosen. It is also worth noticing the style of the handle, peephole, and other details near the entrance.
The plaque does not have to match everything perfectly. Sometimes it is enough that it looks natural and does not introduce chaos.
